Outdoor Classroom, Amphitheatre & Plaza At Ashford Park Elementary School

Brookhaven, GA, October 9, 2014 – Ashford Park School families and neighbors got together to celebrate the completion of the new outdoor classroom facility and amphitheater at Ashford Park Elementary School.
Attendees had the opportunity to talk with members of the Ashford Park Education Foundation about the goals and mission of the organization that makes things like the new outdoor space possible.
Valery Voyles, President and CEO of the Voyles Automotive Group said she was very proud to be a part of the project and loves to hear the sound of children playing. “It’s very rewarding for me to be able to be here and see this,” said Voyles. “We’re happy to be a part of it and give them a push over the edge so they could get it done.”
The Ashford Park School Education Foundation (APSEF), together with Uruut, launched a campaign to raise $100,000 to construct an outdoor classroom at Ashford Park Elementary School. The campaign not only achieved the sizable goal, but through the support of local businesses and residents, they actually exceeded it.
Bill Brantley, Voyles Automotive Group Chief Operating Officer said, “This is an amazing event. When this first started, who would have ever thought that it would turn in to this. It really shows what can happen when the families involved, when the business community is involved, you can make great things happen.”
Ashford Park Elementary School Principal, Dr. LaShawn McMillan said the classroom is already being put to good use. “This does my heart good because I really see people that don’t even have children at Ashford Park here. I think it’s really helping to bring the community together.”
McMillan told The Post that the outdoor classroom has helped with some of the STEM activities and helps what the teachers do in the classroom come alive.
Project sponsors, neighbors and the like had a chance to spend some time in the new amphitheater/outdoor classroom area and take in what they helped build.
